When I played this for our son, my husband looked up the story of Rudolph on Wikipediaand informed me that the above cartoon was the first time Rudolph made it to the big screen, without the now famous song, which didn't exist at the time. It was re-released, apparently, after the song was written. I don't know if the original cartoon from 1944 is available in any form anywhere or not; the above version is obviously the 1948 version.
