Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl

It might seem strange to throw on a Disney pirate movie and a day that is attempting to celebrate Native Americans in light of the fact that it is Columbus Day, which I thoroughly despise....But....the movie does actually have a native revenge tale at it core.  Well, sort of.  The whole curse of the black pearl thing is centered around a retelling of the real legend to do with "Aztec gold"--the so called "Treasure of Montezuma" (whose real name was actually Motechzoma Xocoyotzin, the modern surname of which is Moctezuma...Cortes actually spelled it "Mutezuma.").  There is a real story surrounding this; so in the movie it has been rewritten in a pirate context.  Supposedly the pirates of the Black Pearl, led by Captain Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush), stole the Aztec gold, which looks curiously like coins, and that is why they are cursed as undead.  Besides, Johnny Depp is of Cherokee and Navajo ancestry, along with a lot of others!!

The Mexican Elvis, El Vez has a song about it, in which Cuauhtemoc, the real last Emperor of the Aztec empire, plays a central role in the treasure story.
