This John Sayles' film have so many bad/conflicted (and lying) fathers and father types--really no point in naming them. Although it's McConaughey's character (that barely comes into visibility) that forms the backbone of the film's historical legacy. Fathers though, are everywhere...some are conciliatory, some are just brutal! And, this one comes so close to the real life experience that some of us have with our father's (parents). I was fortunate to make things okay with mine before it was too late, which is why I find this film so important right before Father's Day. RIP Elizabeth Pena!!
