Grizzly Man (2005)

In yet another round of sucking up to my now ten year cat Weena, who had such a terrible virus on her 9th birthday that she almost didn't make a day past nine, never mind to ten (!); we are featuring an older Friday theme that she loves....of course it involves animals!  So wildlife it is.  I should mention that in almost all cases, with the exception of films like Frankenfish or say Anaconda most of these films have animals attacking out of self preservation, or at least from natural behaviors.  I'm saying this in part because we are starting out with this documentary by famed filmmaker and household favorite Werner Herzog; it's subject being the controversial Timothy Treadwell, himself a filmmaker of sorts (all of the footage of Treadwell, except for media appearance, in Herzog's film was shot by Treadwell himself), who ultimately died by bear attack, along with his girlfriend at the time, in 2003.  I'm certainly not trying to suggest that such a film be put on the same level as a Nightmare On Elm Street or a Friday the 13th movie by throwing it in the player on a Friday morn.  It is a truly terrifying story and one that, as a person seriously involved my Native ancestry is, kinda hard to watch, because he breaks all the rules that Aleutian Unangan  have lived by for thousands of years.  Still, it's not that he should have died for it--but probability speaks to that loudly:  if you persist in dangerous behaviors long enough, something bad will happen.   The other reason, is that we are planning to view The Grey later on, which is even more controversial than Treadwell--but more about that later!  More about the film here at Wikipedia; see also Grizzly Diaries at Animal Planet.

Chillingly, this is probably the bear that later killed Treadwell.
