Fear And Desire (1953)

This is a rare moment in this household.  Everyone here is a Kubrick fan, and he is not known as a prolific director, quite the opposite, since he took up so much time on each project.  To have a film of his that we haven't seen before finally become available on Blu Ray, is a big and exciting (anticipated) experience!  This is Kubrick's first feature film and after it premiered in 1953 he had it withdrawn from circulation and buried it.  It is well known that he never wanted it screened again; but the "Kodak House" (George Eastman House in Rochester NY) had a copy of it and they have screened it many times during festivals.  I suppose, after Kubrick's untimely death in 1999, it was only a matter of time before it become commercially available....but it took longer than I would have expected.  It looks like the good folks over at Kino did a great job on the restoration!
