I have a great affection for this film, not least which is that Michael Mann is one of my favorite crime directors, but that it was one of the last films I ever saw with my father in the theater, and starts off with the year the movie was set in, which was the same year my father was born, in big bold numbers. He got a kick out of that! It remains one of the only period films that Mann has directed (famously he did a serious version of Last Of The Mohicans). Also any one familiar with this blog knows that I admire the acting skills of Mr. Johnny Depp to a high degree.
