I've generally been a fan of remakes, but I have noticed that some American remakes of foreign films (The Grudge, The Ring, etc.) do actually work--there are so many more that do not translate well. This, I think, is in the former category. I really admire the performances by both Chloe Moretz and Kodi Smit-McPhee as child actors in this, as much as I did their Swedish counterparts in the original Let The Right One In.
