This Robert Wise science fiction extravaganza was nominated for two Oscars. One for Best Film Editing and one for Best Set Decoration...which it should have won for in my opinion...Hollywood just couldn't let go of the idea of an old fashioned, over-blown and bloated, 3 hour melodrama (history be damned!): see Nicholas and Alexandra which won over Strain.
