Season 7 Is The Last

Season 7 (starting on Monday) will be the series last.  Kyra Sedgwick who stars of the detective the the Georgia drawl Brenda Liegh Johnson, decided that she was tired of working in television and made the decision to leave the show last Fall.  I remember watching the Golden Globes and looking at The Closer table, everyone there, aside from Sedgwick, looked pretty depressed and pissed off.  At the time there was only a mere whiff of a spin-off.  Now things are decidedly looking up.  Not only is TNT adding 6 additional episodes to the usual 15 in the Season 7 wrap up; they, as of May,  it has been confirmed that the spin off is indeed on.

The series will be entitled "Major Crimes" and will star Mary McDonnell (better known in the horror world as Donnie Darko's mom) in her current Closer role of Captain Sharon Rador.  The spin-off has been picked up for at least 19 episodes.  There, as of now, there is little information about who from the current cast will return.  Lets hope most of them will sign on!!

Meanwhile executive producer James Duff is really, really tightlipped about the paramenters of the new show.  A tab in USA Today explores more.
