Wolverine!

Just got copy of this on blu ray for the first time--it really looks, and even sounds, so much better than the DVD copy that we own.  So if you have a blu-ray player, and you're into the X-Men franchise, I'd recommend it.

As far as the movie goes, I remember thinking a lot of "oh yeah right!" thoughts when I heard about it's pending theatrical release.  I had pretty much tired of the whole X-Men film projects year before.  So I really didn't think I was going have much patience for this.  Then I saw it upon DVD release and was completely surprised by it.  I remember thinking, now this is a movie!  If I'm really honest, I like better than any of the other X-Men movies, including the first one (I think I was determined to like it because of Patrick Stewart's taking on the role of Charles Xavier and Ian McKellan as Magneto--if I'm honest, it's fun, but pretty silly).  Wolverine is a well made film all around, with real adult content.  It might in the domain of Marvel Comics, but it really doesn't feel like a "comic book movie."

So what's doing in a Canadian lineup?  Well, although it was filmed in large part down under and in New Zealand, parts were also filmed in Canada and, of course, part of it is set in Canada.  The cast contains at least one Canadian actor as well:  Taylor Kitsch

Some Trivia:

Despite that the story is plenty adult with the PG-13 version, the original screenplay was reportedly even darker, a version that would have garnered in R rating.

First X-Men movie to feature Gambit.  His character was written into and then out of the previous X-Men movie.

Originally Liev Schrieber was set to take the role of Colonel William Stryker, but read the script and decided that the role of Sabertooth was more interesting and requested the change.  So the Stryker role went to Danny Houston.

In the seen of the village in Africa a scene was shot of a young girl with white hair.  She is supposed to be a young Ororo Monroe AKA Storm.  The scene, however, was cut from the final print of the film.

Before Schrieber expressed interesting the role of Victor Creed AKA Sabretooth, both Gerard Butler and Karl Urban were considered for the role.

To keep with some of the continuity of an actual Native American superhero in the actual comic, the script has Kayla telling Logan as story of the moon and her lover.  The story is actually based on several different native stories about the moon from the southwest.  The name she gives him as translating into "wolverine" is in Hopi.
