For me, this is the ultimate Christmas movie! Really! It's set during the Christmas season and concludes on Christmas Eve. It also happens to be a pretty damn good haunted house flick as well. It is based on the Richard Matheson novel Hell House, and, in fact, Matheson himself penned the screenplay adaptation. Despite that it is based on Matheson's book, the story shares a lot in common with Shirley Jackson's novel The Haunting of Hill House, which The Haunting (1963) is based on (and basically, also The Haunting 1999). The only difference here is that the research team to tackles the house has more scientific gadgets with them.
