This boasts a monster cast, both Native and non-Native. On the Native side, Wes Studi turns in what should have been an Oscar winning performance! He is joined by Russell Means (Oglala Lakota Sioux)--a founding member of AIM, as was Dennis Banks (Anishinabe [Ojibwe])--who here he plays Ongewasgone, the very talented Eric Schweig (Inukititut), and somewhere in the fray is Scott Means, Russell's actual son assaying a role simply called "Abenaki Warrior." On the non-Native side there is the crazy talented Daniel Day Lewis, Madeliene Stow, Jodhi May, Maurice Roëves, Steven Waddington; even the late Pete Postlewaite makes an appearance. It's my favorite Michael Mann movie (and I am a fan!!), not just because of my native heritage, or that it was shot in the ancestral homeland that is the Great Smokey Mountains; but because it is one of the great period action war dramas ever shot, and bases a good deal of the script on historical facts of the so-called "French & Indian War." Below is the full version of the Clannad song found on the soundtrack, it is not the precise same version. In the SDTK version the Cherokee language is featured prominently. The band asked Wes Studi if he would translate it from English for them--which he gladly did.
