The Thin Man (1934)

I have on job training today...talk about taking a bite of the weekend...never mind out the fun of Fright Month!!  So, it's Thin Man all day--it's a psychological comfort...that's all l have to say, someone might see something here I don't want them to!!!  There are just enough of these to get me through the day and not pull my hair out!  Anyway, it's on with loads of black and white, mono sound, one-line zingers worthy of the Marx Bros., tons of cocktails, and dead bodies....lots and lots of dead bodies!!  The Thin Man the first film in the series which introduces us to Nick and Nora, is based on a Dassell Hammet novel of the same name.  A lot of people list this as Noir, but to me it's kind of "anti-noir"--which I mean in a good way (I love films noir!); it's kind of Film Noir meets slapstick.  William Powell and Myrna Loy were the beloved pair and were the darlings of the screen assaying the snooping murder solving pair in the 1930's!  Nick Charles is a former hard boiled "dick" from the streets who marries a girl with lots of money, and as it turns out, loads of deductive wit, so he retires....but it's not long before he gets drug back into detecting...on an amateur level mind you.  It's not long before Nora gets involved....and so to do their dog Asta.  Before you know it a skeleton is discovered and everybody from everybody keeps saying it's some guy called the "fat man," I guess he's not so fat any more!  Things get a bit "twisty" from there....  This is also a great Christmas movie.  Loads of drunken carols!  Incidentally, there was a remake set to film this November that has since been put on hiatus, starring Johnny Depp as Nick Charles.  The reason for the delay, and possibly nixing of the whole production altogether, is rumored to be bugetary troubles.  Pirates:  On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall was to direct.  The project has been in the works for at least two years now.

Skippy The Dog Actor!
