Aztecs: Unsolved History--Aztec Temple

I've blogged about this before.  I will say, that it is a bit silly that there has been so much debate about both the number of sacrifices performed to consecrate the new temple of what is now popularly known as the Templo Mayor as cited by the Aztecs themselves and the method of actual heart sacrifice, which did not originate with the Aztecs.  See the image below, which is from a Mixtec codex that most certainly pre-dates the founding of the Triple Alliance AKA the Aztec Empire.  In the image, it is clear that the heart was extracted from reaching underneath the rib cage, not cutting through it.
