This is one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi/Horror films. I am generally a big fan of Howard Hawks (who hailed from a town not far from the one my son was born in), who produced this and is rumored to have directed a good portion of it [it has his directorial style all over it!]; The Thing is by far my favorite of his films. While people think of this as a truly scary alien flick, not many think of it as a killer plant movie, but in fact, the alien is a plant and it's off-spring are actually grown by Doctor Carrington in his lab. When discussing how to kill the thing, the discussion turns to how to deal with vegetables; they finally decide to "fry" him!
