Adaptation (2002)

This is the quirky plant/crime "thriller" that stars Nicholas Cage as twins, the Kaufman brothers, one of which is a screenwriter who is trying to write that actual screenplay of this actual film.  The cast also includes Meryl Streep, Tilda Swinton, Chris Cooper, Brian Cox in a bit part and "Supernatural's" own Jim Beaver as Ranger Tony.  John Cusack, Katherine Keener, Spike Jonze and John Malkovich all make cameo appearances.    The story revolves around a crazy orchid collector, who is mad to find a ghost orchid on protected Florida land, so to try to get around the illegality of harvesting plants from said protected land, he hires Seminole Indians to collect them for him.  If that weren't enough, Charlie Kaufman is real and he really did write this screenplay, his twin brother Donald, who is also credited with writing the real screenplay, isn't real.  In 2002 "they" both were nominated for an Oscar for best screenplay for this film.  It was the first time in history that a fictional person has been nominated for an Oscar.  Needless to say, things get weird!  Really, really weird!!
