Born In East L.A.

The is a really a Cinco de Mayo film, if anyone wanted to attach to a day on the modern Mexican calender; but seeing as how it mostly deals with desperate people sneaking across the southern border, it works for Columbus Day too.  Any hey, it's funny!  Here's the video of the Cinco de Mayo parade from the film...Rudy, of course, can't remember what it means.  But....oh well!  Cinco de Mayo, is just the 5th of May; it commemorates the defeat of the French in the state of Puebla on that day in the year 1862 by a group of largely consisting of Nahuatl speaking fighters.  Strangely enough it is celebrate more here in the US, than in Mexico.  Television stations in Mexico City actually send reported to L.A. to cover the parade every year!  For this reason, it is date that has come to represent an opportunity to show solidarity with undocumented workers, what some people call "illegal immigrants."  One such immigration march of Cinco de Mayo was held all over the country from NYC to San Francisco; however the march in Los Angeles was marred with the riot police swarmed the parade for no clear reason.  Los Angeles and Los Angeles County were successfully sued over the ordeal and had to pay millions out, right when the financial crisis hit.  Speaking of calendars, today is Xochiquetzal chichuei Ehecatl (that is it is the 8th day of the month of Xochiquetzal (Flower Feather) day Ehecatl (or 8-Wind).
