This is one of those Syfy channel movies. The whole idea of it is ludicrous of course; but whether the film makers knew it or not (and judging from the script, they didn't), the people that gave the world the story most likely came from what is now the desert southwest of the US. Note that this refers only to one group of people who eventually went on to found the Aztec empire. Well, back to the silliness...This film stars Shannen Doherty, Michael Shanks and Blackfeet actor Byron Moon-Chief.
Another thing that is genuinely "Aztec" about the film is the huge petro-painting that can be seen on the side of the cliff. It is taken directly from the above codes painting and depicts a Tzitzimime, supernatural beings that are profoundly associated with darkness, commonly referred to as "star demons." Why these Grand Canyon Aztecs would put such feared creature up like a cliff side billboard, I have no idea! These being were seriously feared and pretty much avoided at all costs. I guess with this evil winged creature that they are appeasing; maybe these particular Aztecs were into the "dark stuff." Is this movie sure these people aren't really Toltecs?! Since this is Columbus Day, thought we should start out with a bonafide Native American badass! How much more "badass" can you get than with a Star Demon???!!
