This is, of course, one of Agatha Christie's most famous novels, bar none. It has been made in to stand alone movie before, famously so in 1978 with an all-star cast and the late great Peter Ustinov as the great Belgian detective. That in no way detracts from the Suchet series taking up the project. It is beautifully shot on location, and sports an uncomfortable dark mood, despite all the sunshine and sand bleached tours of Egyptian ruins and temples. It does not have a cast of serious movie stars, but it doesn't need them; everyone here does a great job of bringing their characters to life, despite that many of the them have extremely exaggerated personality traits. American actor David Soul is easy to miss, as he inhabits his character so fully--it's hard to believe that this is the same actor who starred in "Starsky & Hutch," or who battle vampires in Steven King's "Salem's Lot" mini! It is all well done!
