Theme Recipe: Halloween Glow In The Dark Jello

Glow In The Dark Gels

You favorite color or flavor of Jello
You favorite mold shape
Bundt Cake or Angel Food pan
Transparent plate
Small short flashlight

1.  Make the gelatin according to package directions and pour into mold (or regular bowl).  Refrigerate to set up.  When set, unmold onto a transparent or clear plate (my note:  to easily unmold gelatins and aspic, dip the mold into hot water to melt a layer, this allows it to slip out of the mold, pan or bowl very easily).  Return to the refrigerator.

2.  Take the bundt or angel food cake pan and invert it, place the small flashlight in the center.  When ready to serve, turn on the flashlight and place the plate with the gel on top.

VARIATIONS

For extra effect, get some cardboard and cut it to fit around the pan that is serving as the pedestal.  Then decorate it with glow in the dark paint.

You can make individual little molds of all sorts of shapes and place multiple jellos on the same plate.  Especially striking if the molds are different colors.

You can easily make glow in the dark jell-o shots.  The ones that glow the best have real tonic water with actual quinine in them--the quinine is what creates the glow.  Popular one are Gin and Tonic shots, made with simple (sugar) syrup and unflavored plain gelatin.  For this you will need to heat the syrup to dissolve the gelatin over a double boiler.  While this is melting, combine the gin and tonic in a heatproof pitcher, or bowl with a spout.  When gelatin is melted, pour into gin mixture, and stir well.  Pour into jello shot cups, then refrigerate.  To serve, place these under a black light and let them glow.  You can also make these with other liquors and blue jello.
