Theme Recipe: Kid's Witch's Brew

Kid Friendly Halloween Brew

It's kid's day, so a kid friendly Halloween "brew" I thought would be in order.  The P. loves apple juice so this is my way of showing him so love on my blog.  Though I confess, he HATES heated apple juice...he's picky.  This is still good though, and easy.

3 quarts real apple cider (or you can use regular apple juice)
10 whole cloves
3 cinnamon sticks (the cassia tight ones, not the canela loose ones)
Extra cinnamon sticks for garnish (optional)

Combine the cider, cloves and 3 cassia cinnamon sticks in a stock pot, bring heat up slowly on medium heat.  Simmer for about 10 to 12 minutes, any longer and the spices get too strong.  Strain mixture into another pan, keep warmed.  Serve in small mugs for kids (we use espresso cups that look like mugs).  For grown ups, serve in large mugs with cinnamon swizzle stick and tuck in some golden or dark rum for good measure!!
