When Sam explains to Larry how he was induced to talk under interrogation in the film Ronin, he sarcastically tells him "they gave me a grasshopper." When Larry, taking the bait...asks "what's a grasshopper?" Sam retorts "Lessee, 2 parts gin, 1 part brandy, 1 part creme de menthe..." Well actually that's a pretty heady concoction!! The real grasshopper is made exclusively with liqueurs (recipe below under variations). This Sam's version.
2 oz. Gin
1 oz. Good Brandy or Cognac
1 oz. GREEN Creme de Menthe
2 oz. Cream (half and half is best)
Fresh grated nutmeg (optional)
Place all of these is a cocktail shaker and shake really well. Strain into a cocktail glass. Grate on some nutmeg if you like.
Variation: The Original Recipe
Cocktail shaker with ice
2 oz. cream
1/2 oz. Green Creme de Menthe
1/2 oz. White Creme de Menthe
Pour drink ingredients into the cocktail shaker. Shake well, strain into cocktail glass and serve. Note: if you like frozen drinks, all of this, with 4 oz. of ice can be blended and served as a slushy.
