The Beginnings Of The Roman Empire

Although most think of the founding of the Roman Empire as having formally started with Julius Caesar, he is actually not listed on the list of Roman Emperors, that "honor" goes to Caesar's adopted son (great nephew by birth) Octavius, who later was declared Imperator and had his name changed to Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus, becoming Emperor Augustus.

Rome had no had a "king" since very ancient times, and the Julian line traced it ancestry back to these kings and the house produced two of Rome's most infamous rulers:  Caligula and Nero.
