From some reason the first part of the post on Rob Zombie's Halloween didn't actually show up on the blog--just blank space. So here is what I intended in that space (more or less):
OK--before I say anything else, I am a fan (and have been for years) a fan of Rob Zombie's Music
and even his music videos). Conflict of interest acknowledged.
Having said that, there is no way that I would ever say that his Halloween is the classic that Carpenter's
original is, far from it--it is not even in the same ballpark. But unlike a lot of my fellow horror bloggers,
I find the movie at least somewhat interesting on it's own level.
A lot of people just do not like Zombie's filmmaking--period, which is fine. But, I confess that I really
I really like Houw of 1000 Corpses, even though it is basically just one rip off after another.
I guess I'm cheap--I don't mind, and even sometimes enjoy a good rip-off (or "homage"....)
Further on, I can completely understand why some just to not like The Devil's Rejects at all. It is
violent, extremely, and covered with rip-offs, albeit, updated, if you will. Mostly it "borrows"
heavily from the grotesquely violent Last House on the Left. People in my family groan that
"I'm not sure that I even like this film" when I put it in to play---infrequently. They have their
reasons--good ones
