No way in hell we're doing a Halloween centric Friday Frights without playing the ultimate Halloween classic. Of course, slasher flicks existed before this film--some even trace them clear back to the 50's, but this movie really gelled them as a solid horror genre. This makes most lists of top horror flicks of all time. It is definitely in my personal top ten, and I own a lot of horror movies!
It has a simple ploy of playing off the angsts of babysitting and the proverbial "boogeyman," but director /writer John Carpenter takes this as a platform to build on, rather than just making the usual teenybopper the call is coming from inside the house routine. It's simple, but he lets the horror do the talking, and provides us with our first look at a true horror icon: Michael Myers. Plus the reason for Michael's return, provides an good staging ground for a very good sequel; and all of us horror film buffs out there know, sequels pretty much suck. Not so with Halloween 2.
Around this time of year, along with the the ghost face from The Scream movies, and the Jason hockey masks, the Mike Myers face still makes an appearance any and everywhere that Halloween provisions are sold. But even Michael used to be a kid too....
He goes from his innocent looking little dude, well innocent except for that pig sticker he's carrying...to this?
I guess so!
And eventually we even get...this
My God, he's so cute!!
For anyone who is interested Mike even has his own web site....
