On Now: The Raven (1963)

Had to get some Roger Corman action here--Boris Karloff, Vincent Price and Peter Lorrie on board!!

On Now: Wolf (1994)

I couldn't help but put this on, after viewing The Witches Of Eastwick earlier, wherein Michelle Pfeiffer's character of Sukie is the innocent one of the three "witches;" the juxtaposition of her character here as the troubled "little rich bitch" is just a credit to her acting skills, it's a bit mind blowing!  Of course, we all know that Nicholson can pull off playing the The Devil in a movie and turn around and play a poor schmuck who just happens to get bitten by a wolf; but this film was made 7 years after "Eastwick" and and Pfeiffer literally doesn't even look like the same person!  She fades into this role in a way that I think some find disturbing; that maybe they just don't quite get it. Just fishing for a few images for this blog with an emphasis on Nicholson as Will Randell, werewolf bite recipient--I realized just how many people just do not get this film.  In many ways, with the insertion of Om Puri as Dr. Alezias, it brings the story back to the basics of the werewolf emerging from the East, not at all unlike the reboot of the The Wolfman 2010.  I personally have a fondness for it, it's not an action film, but it is, in my opinion, a solid werewolf film.  And, I completely forgot that it was directed by Mike Nichols, same director of Carnal Knowledge.  The soundtrack is by the great Ennio Morricone, also a favorite film composer of mine.  And, although we didn't get around to it today, it's worth pointing out that the publishing house in this is a nod to Chinatown, the Roman Polanski film from 1974 starring Nicholson--it's the same building, same shooting location.

On Now: Hell's Angels On Wheels (1967)

Jack Nicholson is of course famous for being a biker in Easy Rider (1969), but what is not widely known is that he was in this biker flick just 2 years earlier, simply credited as "Poet."
