Random Hitchcock: Pyscho (1960)

I've written about this to some extent before--I've definitely posted a scary gallery of film stills during Oscar season here.  Based on the book Psycho by Robert Bloch, it was adapted for the screen by Joseph Stefano.  It is well known that the book is loosely based on the eccentric killer Ed Gein, who was primarily a ghoulish grave robber.  This being 1960, the film was shocking and controversial enough, without putting "grave goods" around, besides it would seriously detract from the moment when we "meet" mother!  Instead, Norman Bates is made into an amateur taxidermist, with stuffed animals, well birds, lots creepy looking birds all around his office.  It works as an effect well, especially with the black and white film stock!  I mean it would take another 14 years before anyone would attempt to show objects like the ones found in Gein's home on film...in Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  The film famously stars Janet Leigh (at least until that infamous shower scene), Vera Miles as her concerned sister, John Gavin as the boyfriend and. of course, Anthony Perkins as Norman.  The above trailer, is on set promo with Hitch on the set (in the same black and white stock) giving a show around.  I will see if I can find some shots from the studio lot of the set.

Planet Terror (2007)

Pacqui Micciahuitl!

Days of the dead can last two days, 3 days or even 4 days, and in some places like the Andes or Los Angeles, even longer.  Around our house we start celebrating on Halloween through to Nov. 2.  This is one of the most important and widespread Native American holidays still observed!  So how better to celebrate than to play Robert Rodriquez's portion of Grindhouse--it's zombies....with barbecue!!

Underworld" Rise Of The Lycans

Not a lot of people notice that actor Michael Sheen is a part of the cast of Mary Reilly--he's the character Bradshaw, who notices that Mr Hyde looks like a Dr. Jekyll, musing that he might be one of the Doctor's "grown up wild oats."  He, of course, is well known as Lucian in the Underworld series--so next up is Rise of the Lycans.  I have a cat that loves this film!!

Friday The 13th

Goolge Blogger was down this morning....did they do it on purpose because of the date????   If they didn't, then the Friday 13 gremlins surely were working over time!

Well the gremlins apparently have gotten into Google requests for videos.  I wouldn't process my requests for the Part 2 trailer, but I found this clip on You Tube that is kind of cool.
