I work at home--so Friday Frights is an easy thing to do around my little tiny part of the globe. Every Friday is "Fright Night" and October is a whole month of Friday's. There is usually a theme, like straight horror, zombies, vampires, mysteries, etc. So every day this month will have a different film viewing theme--starting things off today is "Halloween"--of course. Kicking things this morning is the
Halloween that doesn't fit the series, the much complained about (with some good reason)
Halloween III sub titled
Season of the Witch. The story line is about a believable as a porno plot, like the Jackie Treehorn "clip" shown in the middle of the
The Big Lebowski, with Karl Hungus as "the cable guy;"--modern day witches making some human sacrifice masks and mumbling something about Stonehendge. But I do confess a slight affection for any movie that has Tom Atkins in it--he's a real favorite Many a young director (I'm thinking of you Sam Raimi) working in the horror genre owes him big time. I'm sure we'll get around to viewing Carpenter's
The Fog, or God forbid,
Maniac Cop (speaking of Raimi).
And oh that theme song. It's one that when it gets in the old noodle--it doesn't leave anytime soon. Now that really is scary! Just thought I'd share
As for the real Celtic holiday of Samhain, here's a Wikipedia link all about it. It's pretty cool and reminds me a bit of Days of the Dead here in the America's--but more about that later in the month.
I'm a big fan of Halloween 3. It's a classic. It's my 2nd favorite flick in the Halloween series, next to the original.
