Episode: A Morbid Taste for Bones
Based on Ellis Peters "The Cadfael Chronicles" (unofficial name), this series stars famed Shakespearean actor Derek Jacobi as the warrior monk Cadfael, who has (because he is the abbey's herbalist) a powerful talent for medieval detection and forensics based on plant matter. This particular episode is basically it's most Catholic in theme.
When a young monk, who claims to have visions of sacred bliss, says that he sees a vision that would lead the monks of the English Abbey of Shrewsbury, into Welsh territory and pluck a Welsh saint from Welsh soil and drag her carcass back to the Abbey as a relic--the monks believe him, and set off with a taste for desecration filled with "holy rites," and a serious taste for bones. The Welsh citizens of the town were Saint Winifred is buried do not cotton to this idea a bit, and see it as yet another example of English domination over the native Welsh population in their own land. Predictably, all of this leads to murder, and it is up to Cadfael, not only to help make religious about whether should continue or go home, he, as usual, is the only one who can solve the murder as well.
Brother Cadfael: If justice is denied us, who knows what we will do. "A man may step outside his nature" Peredur's words, not mine.
Creepy Catholic Fact 2: The Spanish Inquisition was established in 1480, that most people have a clue of. What most do not know, it that it didn't end until July of 1834, when the tribunal was formerly disbanded by The Vatican
