Theme Recipe: Ghosts In The Graveyard--The Halloween Pudding

Ghosts In The Graveyard Pudding

2 packages instant chocolate pudding
3 cups cold milk
1 12 oz. tub whipped topping, plus extra for decorating
12 to 15 Oreo cookies (place in bag and crush)
Decorator gel in tubes
Assorted decorations, like sandwich cookies that resemble tombstones, seasonal candies, like candy corn, candies that look like pumpkins, etc.  Gummy worm work, so do spider candies.

1.  Pour milk in mixing bowl. add the pudding and mix well to combine.  Let sit for 10 minutes, then fold in the whipped topping, then fold in 1/2 of the crushed cookies.  Pour this mixture into a 13 by 9 baking pan, and spread even.  Top with the rest of the crushed cookies.  Refrigerate for at least an hour.

2.  Meanwhile, take the decorator icing and decorate the cookies to look like tombstones.  When pudding is set, decorate the pudding the tombstone candies-then plop on extra whipped topping or put in a pastry bag and make ghosts next to the tombstones, put something on the ghosts to resemble eyes, if liked-do all of this right before serving.

Variations

1.  Some recipes call for the addition of cream cheese, up to 8 oz. in some cases, I'd go for the 4 ounces myself.  To use soften, and mix with the whipped topping, before folding into the pudding.

2.  You could make this with real home whipped heavy cream that you add sugar to.  A mixer works well for this.

3.  You add food coloring(s) to the whipped topping to make different colored ghosts.

4.  Since the oreos are on top, there is nothing to keep you from using a different flavor of pudding.  If you are still concerned about the color of the pudding, add some cocoa powder, a fruit and chocolate affair would be nice!
