I confess to being a life-long David Cronenberg fan, and a complete apologist for his particular brand of "technological gore." Since the 1960's he's experimented in various forms with the deforming evils of technological advancement; so it is totally understandable that he would want to be the one to remake The Fly. I know a lot of people don't like it, and that's OK, I'm a big fan of the original myself! It's bit like what happened earlier in the 1980's with John Carpenter made The Thing. One has to keep in mind that this was at the dawn of understanding genome splicing as a possibility; of course Cronenberg wouldn't be able to resist that!!
