Herzog's Cave Of Forgotten Dreams

Herzog is one of those rare directors who has as long and distinguished career as a director of very provoking documentaries as he is a director of live action cinema.  This is one of his most recent, and is unique in his use of 3D, which is generally regards as inappropriate for use in film making (he claims to have only ever viewed one 3D film:  James Cameron's Avatar).  Here he uses it to aid the camera to "capture the intentions of the painters;" and I must admit, it is quite striking. The film starts out in southern French vineyard that has been clipped for the winter, and is really pretty creepy; one member of my household remarked that "only Herzog can make a vineyard resemble the catacombs of Paris."  Here is the Wikipedia link for information on Chauvet Cave, which is located in Gorges de l'Ardeche.  Below are images of from the cave; oddly they include rhinoceros' and lions, which were actually in Europe at the time, some 35,000 years ago.
