This is film number one in director Edgar Wright's Blood and Ice Cream trilogy (also known as Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy); Shaun of the Dead is a masterclass in how to make a zomcom! It certainly was not the first zombie comedy, versions of which arguably date back to the 1940's, but it is, hands down, the best (and I am a BIG fan of Return of the Living Dead!). It also elevated the sub-genre and made way for other very funny, very gory horror side-spliters of the undead sort (see Cooties, Little Monsters, Cockney's Vs. Zombies, and, of course, Zombieland). So...just watch it 🎃🧟🎃
