I genuinely like this film--which is part giallo, part straight-forward mystery and part religious horror--but I admit that my main reason for recommending this is based on it's soundtrack. It is, perhaps, not the best reason for recommending any movie, but I am a REALLY big fan of Ennio Morricone, and he composed and directed the music for this film. I have also noticed that not many giallos of any sort get recommended during the Halloween season. American born actress Mimsy Farmer plays the titular morgue pathologist who is also a student. Her character's fatigue from simultaneously working long hours at the morgue and attempting to finish her studies leave her thinking that she is seeing things when the body of a suicide arrives at said morgue. From there, the film finds it's stride as a solid mystery. Things heat up when the woman's brother--a priest--shows up and insists that she most certainly did not do away with herself; despite that the city is experiencing a wave a suicides. The film is a bit slow burn, but Morricone's score carries it through some of the slower parts nicely. Recommended, but be sure to get the 100 minute original release, as the 85 minute version is the heavily edited version released in theaters in the United States.
